Facet filtering very slow

Hi
When I click a facet item in our search areas, there can be quite a delay before the page/search results update and filter the content. Often, this results in people clicking more facet items before any changes happen.
We have several archive page searches filtered by a specific content type. These searches only use the taxonomies specific to the custom post types. Several taxonomy types are not displayed at any one time – but we do have quite a lot of filters.
Is there any way to increase the speed facets searches filter content? I’m not sure if the number of taxonomy types and items tagged can severely impact speed?
Thanks
Jonathan

You can activate the WPSOLR’s Ajax search & facets refresh to speed things up, like on our 100 thousand products WooCommerce demo.

I have activated the ajax template ‘Use my current theme search template without ajax (with widget Facets and widget Sort)’. This does not appear to make a difference.
Do I need to configure all the classes/ids to target under ‘Current theme Ajax search’ before the ajax template works at all?
I tried to set a delay of 5000ms for facet refresh to test if the ajax temaplte was working but this had no effect
Thanks
