Hi,
I have finally had time to setup a new staging site to properly test WP Solr and get it setup.
However for some reason when I go to create a test index I get an error message:
“An unexpected error occured. Please retry a bit later.”

Are you aware of this issue? Or is there something I should do to fix?

We indeed stopped the Elasticsearch test index service.
The test button will also be removed from the next WPSOLR release.

Ah okay fair enough, what would you recommend as a quick simple test server to setup for this?

– For Elasticsearch
a) Bonsai provides a free sandbox cluster: /guide/configuration-step-by-step-schematic/configure-your-indexes/create-a-bonsai-elasticsearch-index/

b) If you are on Cloudways, every server comes with a free local Elasticsearch: /guide/configuration-step-by-step-schematic/configure-your-indexes/create-a-cloudways-elasticsearch-index/

– For Solr
I do not know any free sandbox hosted.

– For Algolia:
You could also try Algolia, which provides a free tier for non-production usage: /guide/configuration-step-by-step-schematic/configure-your-indexes/create-an-algolia-index/
